- Always give respect, timely responses, and strength-based feedback
MEET THE FOUNDING PARTNERS
I am Dawn Strauss-Berta! I live in Iowa, in a town called Bettendorf, right on the Mississippi river. I live with my husband of 23 years, and my two kids, Cas Berta and Carly. Although I live in Iowa, I was born and raised in NJ and am a true NJ girl. I am often told, “You can take the girl out of Jersey, but can never take Jersey out of the girl”.
I have an undergraduate degree in music education – (violin was my major instrument) and a doctorate degree in Chiropractic. I have been teaching online college classes in health and science for the past 13 years now, and online ESL classes at various companies for the past four years.
Wendy, Heather, and I met in our ESL lives. We also went on a cruise together before COVID closed the travel world down. I love them and am super happy we three are in this together!
I spent nearly 25 years as an educator in various settings: in the classroom, in my own home, and online. I am Mom to five children, through birth and international adoption. As a military family, we lived in over a dozen locales across the U.S. I continue to advocate for equal rights for all by listening, reading, and amplifying voices from vulnerable populations. I have a heart for the LGBT+ and BIPOC communities. My experiences give me a unique perspective that I bring to everything I do.
When I am not eyeballs-deep in the Your Teachable Moment website, I work as a freelance editor specializing in Middle Grade, Young Adult, and New Adult fiction.
I jumped at the chance to work alongside Dawn and Wendy. After spending nearly a week in a tiny cruise ship cabin with them, I was sure that we make a great team and have ideas that have the potential to change the world.
Hello all–I am the W in the DHW Education LLC. My name is Wendy Blizard Eldredge and I live outside of Boston, Massachusetts in the beautiful town of Bolton. We just downsized since our kids are grown and flown. My nice husband and I are still settling in and enjoying our sunsets on our new deck.
In my work life I have served as a grant writer, started a nonprofit which I ran for 13 years, was an early childhood administrator, and went to grad school in my 40s to earn my Masters in Public Administration. When I was teaching in the UMASS system in 2010, we packed up and moved to China for three years for my husband’s career. Rather than go back to university teaching, I took some time off and dabbled in a few interesting things–one of which brought me to Heather and Dawn.
I am 55. My husband, Michael, and I have been together for 32 years. We have two beautiful and brilliant daughters–one is local to us and one lives in Montana! Additionally, we have a borrowed son who lives in Princeton, NJ. There is a long story about how we came to borrow him, but we are keeping him and that’s that. Last, but not least, is our beloved Andrew-in-law. He came to us via marriage to our oldest and he had no idea what he was getting into.
I am tall and mostly always fun.
