Hi, my name is Paula. Thank you for visiting my profile page to learn a little more about me!
I am passionate about baking from scratch but even more passionate about teaching others to bake.
As a kid, I remember my mom making many homemade and delicious cakes and other goodies for birthdays, holidays, church functions and just because. Although I didn't help back then, I do remember licking many spoons!
My baking journey really began in my high school Home Economics class. Mrs. King, my Home Ec teacher, helped me bake a 3-layer yellow cake with a vanilla buttercream frosting. I was super excited to bring that cake home to my mom for Mother’s Day. I now teach that favorite cake recipe in some of my baking classes.
Besides Home Ec class, I am completely self-taught. I learned by watching my mom for years, reading cookbooks and baking for my employees. Eventually, mom let me take over the holiday dessert table where I made assorted cakes, pies and cheesecakes for my family to enjoy.
My very first teaching job was as a Computer Training Specialist and Technical Writer, and I fell in love with creating classes that were fun and interesting for my students. Over the years, I transitioned into various positions where teaching was all or a part of each job.
In 2007, I launched the homemade baking business I had dreamed about for many years. During that time, I baked and sold desserts and breakfast pastries to wholesale, retail and corporate catering clients. Eight years later, after closing that business, I transitioned to teaching adults and children to bake from scratch. I am always delighted to watch others learn just how simple and delicious baking can be when you have the right tools, techniques and a good recipe.
Baking is only one of my many passions. I also love cooking, crafting, decorating and I’m an avid reader and movie watcher. Please be sure to check back later to find other classes of interest to you. In the meantime, I can’t wait for you to join me in one of my baking classes.
Indulging your passion for learning . . . one class at a time!
